Cuba Has Cake
By my count, there are seventeen towns or cities named Cuba in the U.S. But only one is on Route 66: Cuba, Missouri.
Cuba is known for the Wagon Wheel, murals, and others. What surprised me was the ode to the 100th birthday of Route 66—birthday cakes for the road!
The town had plenty of signs wishing the road a happy birthday. This was the only place on the Mother Road so far that had this approach.
I also enjoyed the murals, such as Amelia Earhart. And, of course, the iconic Wagon Wheel Motel. The Wagon Wheel started welcoming Route 66 guests in 1935 and is one of the oldest still-functioning motels on the Mother Road. It has a great spot on the road and is worth the stay.
